Billy on the bed in the house in San Francisco. why animals
why do they attach
wrap around our hearts
they don't judge
they don't criticze
they eat all the evidence
from your late night binge
comfort you for long walks
sleep at your side
nuzzle you when your face is a mess
walk in the door
and they are happy to see ya
no pressure to make dinner
do laundry or buy the right gift
love is unconditional
so when a pet leaves us
the pain is real
it is deep
take the time to grieve
love is love
whether they say I love you
or show it with a wag of their tail
a brush of their whiskers
or chirping when you walk in the door

Billy being a ham in San Francisco. He loved Don as much as I did. |
